Blogging Advice 101
This post is just to share some blogging advice for new bloggers. In the course of starting my blog, I have gone through some major challenges and learned a few lessons. Before I started my blog, I watched a lot of YouTube video on starting a blog, how to grow your traffic and all that. In fact, when I was at work, all I think about was the last YouTube video I watch and how I was going to watch some more and take down notes when I get home. Apart from watching videos, I went online and binge read different blog posts on how to have a successful blog. Trust me this stage was exciting but at the same time exhausting. I had all this information in my brain including other issues going on in my life. Some of this information I don’t need. They were cluttered info and made my brain overwork. One day I asked myself, Why reading all these posts, watching all these YouTube videos and doing nothing with them? After that little moment with myself, I went ahead and wrote my first post.
Blogging could be fun and at the same time stressful. If you are not ready to dedicate some quality time in establishing your blog, I am sorry you might give up on the way. I have made several attempts to start a blog in the past and they all failed because I was not ready to dedicate any time to work on the blog. I have highlighted few pieces of advice that I think will be helpful for anyone starting a blog. These were some of the things I wished I had known before starting mine. Maybe I wouldn’t have been so stressed out and would have made better decisions. However, life is full of lessons, we learn every day. The most important thing is using those life lessons in positive ways. See the list below for some of my blogging advice for new bloggers:
Advice 1. First of all, congratulation. If you enjoy writing, you will love blogging. However, don’t drown yourself with too much info on the web about blogging. It is important to make researches but be smart about it because not all info applies to you. Filter every tips or idea you come across before using it.
Advice 2. Don’t be scared, go ahead and publish your first post. It is ok if it is not perfect. Just make sure it is something worth reading. Confidence and perfection will come with practice.
Advice 3. Now you have succeeded in publishing that first post and you have written a few other posts but you need people to read it. Get on social media and be active. I find Pinterest more effective in looking for ideas or anything in general. Also, search for bloggers in your niche. Examine how these bloggers are using Pinterest. I recently came across this eBook Pinteresting Strategies by Carly Campbell and I am so glad I found this book. I have read books and watched series of webinars on how to use Pinterest but often times; they really don’t show you how. Carly highlights everything you need to know about using Pinterest.
Advice 4. Write down your short-term goals and long-term goals. You need something to guide you and keep you on track. Evaluate these goals as you take new steps on improving your blog. Above all, make sure you are setting realistic goals for your blog.
Advice 5. Be social. Follow your favorite blogs and bloggers on their social media. You will learn a thing or two from them. Leave comments and I mean meaningful comments.
Advice 6. Be positive. Therefore, keep writing and evolving. Learn from your mistakes and get back on track. It takes time to create great things. Rome was not built in a day.
Advice 7. Most of all, celebrate every milestone. Be proud of every reader, subscriber or product you sell. Don’t despise your days of little beginning. Every success story started from the bottom.
I am still learning and would love to read from you all. What advice do you have for new bloggers?
